Overview

Often, the DBA will need to add or drop database resources from the Oracle Intelligent Agent properties files. This will typically require the DBA to delete files like: If by change, the DBA happens to remove any of the $ORACLE_HOME/network/agent/svp* files in this directory, the IA agents will fail to start.

These include the following files:

Symptom

Trying to start the Oracle9i Intelligent Agent (IA), you receive the following:
  OEM on appdev: agentctl start

Agent startup failed. Check /u01/app/oracle/product/9.0.1/network/log/dbsnmp.nohup for details

DBSNMP for Solaris: Version 9.0.1.0.0 - Production on 09-JAN-2002 12:33:34

  Starting Oracle Intelligent Agent...

After receiving the above error, you review the file dbsnmp.log and discover the following:

DBSNMP for Solaris: Version 9.0.1.0.0 - Production on 09-JAN-2002 12:33:31

  Log messages written to /u01/app/oracle/product/9.0.1/network/log/dbsnmp.log
  Trace information written to /u01/app/oracle/product/9.0.1/network/trace/dbsnmp.trc
  Trace level is currently 0

ODG-05085: Error: failed to get DG cartridge informati

The nmiconf.log file did not contain errors and all services appeared to discover correctly.

The snmp*.ora and services.ora files were created and populated correctly also.

The $ORACLE_HOME/network/log/dbsnmp.nohup file also contained the following errors:

Certain conflicts were resolved during discovery
  Please consult /u01/app/oracle/product/9.0.1/network/log/nmiconf.log for details
  Failed while initializing Collection Service
  Error initializing subsystems
Agent exited at Wed Jan 9 12:33:31 EST 2002 with return value 55
Could not start agent. Initialization failure

Cause

The files: svppcart.dat, svppcart.dat.REF.properties and svppcart.olap where not found in the $ORACLE_HOME\network\agent directory.

Solution

Restore the files: svppcart.dat, svppcart.dat.REF.properties and svppcart.olap (if found) to their proper location: $ORACLE_HOME\network\agent

If you cannot find the missing files, you can create them manually. The format for the files are:

NOTE: Agent tracing on 9i is case sensitive. To trace the Agent, edit the snmp_rw.ora file and add the following line: dbsnmp.trace_level=16
